Advancing Assets for Communities
Advancing Assets for Communities supports local authority-community sector partnerships to develop joint plans for asset transfer with a view to them being implemented. It is funded by Communities and Local Government and coordinated by the DTA in a delivery partnership which includes ACRE, Community Matters and the Local Government Association. The programme was launched in 2007 and will continue until 2011 – involving, on average, thirty additional partnerships each year.
A call for Expressions of Interest to join Round 4 was issued November 10th 2009 - the deadline for submissions was January 22nd 2010. Applications are no longer being accepted
Programme Objectives:
Advancing Assets is intended to demonstrate the feasibility of community asset transfer to enhance the potential of community management and ownership of assets to effect community empowerment.
- To support and strengthen public-third sector partnerships concerned with progressing the transfer of assets from Local Authority ownership and control to communities;
- To devise and disseminate messages, tools and guidance to embed the community asset transfer agenda in Local Authorities – in particular, to overcome the barriers identified in ‘Making Assets Work’;
- To advance community asset transfer projects in different locations to build confidence in the feasibility of asset transfer through a partnership approach.
